NEW LIVE ALBUM ‘SEASON OF SINGING’ FROM HOLY TRINITY CAMBRIDGE COLLECTIVE
Holy Trinity Church Cambridge has released a live album ‘Season of Singing’; a collection of 13 songs recorded live in central Cambridge.
Featuring songs written by Esther-Jane Baxter, Finn Pett, Bez Idakula, and Nick Herbert as well as writers from churches across the UK, ‘Season of Singing’ is a soundtrack for those seeking the presence of God and a revival in our time.
The album title takes its name from Song of Songs 2:10-12:
My beloved spoke and said to me,
“Arise, my darling,
my beautiful one, come with me.
11 See! The winter is past;
the rains are over and gone.
12 Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come.
Writing the project begun as we as a church and nation were coming out of the pandemic and lockdown. After nearly 2 years of silence, we were starting to sing in church again and this felt like a prophetic message for that season, a call to sing again, to find our voices as we emerged from the winter and that’s where the heart behind writing this album began.
The project has been led by Esther-Jane Baxter, Holy Trinity’s Senior Worship Pastor who said:
“Every major move of God throughout history has had a soundtrack, a “season of singing” – the Great Awakening saw the Wesleyan hymns, the Azusa Street Revival the dawn of Gospel music, the charismatic renewal of the late 20th Century saw a new intimacy in worship – love songs to the Lord. This project has been an overflow of intercession, of crying out for a move of God to “do it again in our day, revive it in our time” (Hab 3:2). Our hope and prayer is that these songs would stir a passion in people’s hearts for encounter with Jesus and for His Kingdom to come on earth as it is in Heaven.
As a worship pastor, I’m always thinking about how we can teach and lead our church in worship, how we can architect services and times of worship that lead people to encounter Jesus. Our hope with this project was that we would write a collection of songs that would give people a whole scale of songs to use in their personal times of worship, but also in their churches –gathering songs like ‘Season of Singing’; songs of surrender like ‘All I Ever Want’; songs that remind us of God’s character – ‘History’ & ‘God All Powerful’; to upward praise songs - ‘Morning Star’; to songs of intercession – ‘Wells’ and ‘The River’ and finally a commission - ‘Send Us Out’.
Nick Herbert, co-writer on a number of songs said:
“I love what God is doing at Holy Trinity Cambridge. This album is full of songs that carry a cry for revival and a return to intimacy in our worship. It was an honour to help shape some of the songs from the thoughtful, prayerful and passionate community.”
The album also features new live recordings of songs written by Esther-Jane for New Wine Worship.
‘Season of Singing’ is available on all streaming platforms now and is published globally in partnership with Song Solutions.
